About Me

I grew up in a small town on the water called Barrington, Rhode Island.  I left home to go to school in Washington, DC, a city I have called home for the last ten years.  My husband and I met in college while we were studying abroad in New Zealand.  We currently live in DC and we love watching the city grow and change and exploring the city on foot and on our bikes!  In my free time, I also love traveling and spending time with my family in Rhode Island and my in-laws in Kansas City.  I also love trying new food, baking, reading, and cheering my favorite sports teams! Go Patriots and Nationals!

I attended The George Washington University in Washington, DC, where I majored in Geography and minored in Sociology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  While at GW, I also studied abroad for a two semesters.  One semester I studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and for the second semester, I studied at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.  After graduating, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in education.  I participated in the Capitol Teaching Residency where I was a resident teacher for a year. For the last two years, I have been working towards my Masters degree in Literacy Education at Michigan State University.  I expect to graduate in June 2016.

I spent my first year as a resident teacher, teaching PreK4 at KIPP DC:  Grow Academy.  For the last five years, I have been teaching Kindergarten at a bilingual charter school, called DC Bilingual Public Charter School.  My students learn English and Spanish and switch in the middle of the day.  My co-teacher and I have a morning class and an afternoon class, both with 24 students in each.  While at DC Bilingual, I have also worked to develop the Literacy curriculum for grades K-2, served as the Literacy Grade Level Team Leader, and as one of the Family Engagement Teacher Leaders.
